Cedar Key is a quaint fishing village built upon Way Key, which is the primary key in the group of dozens of little islands (or keys), three miles out in the Gulf of Mexico. We are approximately two and a half hours from Jacksonville, 55 miles southwest of Gainesville, and 150 miles north of Tampa. Cedar Key has a 24-hr lighted airstrip as well as many docking options for boats.

If fishing is your sport, then you have chosen the right place to visit. We are a fisherman’s paradise and home to many saltwater game fish as well as shellfish. Florida Sportsman and many different publications around the country have written about Cedar Key and the wonderful fishing found in abundance here.
Cedar Key is also known for its wildlife. The islands are a haven for wildlife and the Cedar Key Scrub State Preserve is located on the island and there are many keys that are reserved as part of the Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge, which hosts a large number of nesting birds. There are many places to hike and enjoy the nature. There are many islands to see, some are no larger than a pelican’s perch, some are only visible at low tide and some have there own private beaches. These islands can be reached by boat, kayak or canoe.
Cedar Key Florida is rich with history and beautiful sunsets but the fun doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. If you enjoy the nightlife, then check out the many bands that perform here. Cedar Key also has many wonderful restaurants for you to sample, and the shops are filled with original artwork from local artists
